There are many Italian car brands, though only a few truly stand out, and one of them is Alfa Romeo, a car company founded over one century ago by Italian aristocrat Cavaliere Ugo Stella. He wanted to build standard and race cars according to his specifications, and with this goal in mind he led his company and quickly won many races with Alfa Romeo cars. Other famous Italian names, like Giuseppe Campari, and Enzo Ferrari, would aid Stella in his endeavor.

However, when World War 2 came, the company’s factory was bombed, and almost brought the whole company to ruin. Fortunately, by shifting to creating smaller cars shortly after the war ended, the company was able to recover. Their change in direction produced a number of iconic cars that have stood the test of time, and have become popular even today.

By that time, Alfa’s popularity was steadily growing in Europe, but not in the US, that is, until Dustin Hoffman was seen behind the wheel of one of their most famous cars, the Spider, in the 1967 masterpiece “The Graduate.” The car would have many incarnations over the years, and would start a wave of interest in the US for the AR brand, leading to the buying of many used or brand new cars, a trend that continues today with many people looking for used Alfa Romeo 147 vehicles. Despite this, however, AR would probably be remembered most for its achievements in motorsports.

Alfa Romeo has won many racing championships over the decades. In fact the 158 Alfetta, would seal Alfa’s name in history by winning the first two Formula One World Championships in 1951 and 1952. Even today the car company continues to win with cars like the 156, which won both the Italian Super Touring Car and European Touring Car Championships many times the past few years.

Today, Alfa Romeo’s legacy lives on. There are still thousands of people looking for the best bargains they can. Whether brand new or used, these vehicles are very good investments.
